Vincent Enyeama faces African Opposition, Future uncertain

Former Nigeria captain, Vincent Enyeama’s future at France Ligue 1 side, Lille OSC, is uncertain as he is among the 11 players who have been frozen out by new Lille coach Marcelo Bielsa.

The 34-year-old former Nigeria goalkeeper, who moved to Lille in 2011, has been ostracised by their new boss, Bielsa.

After being appointed by the club’s new owner, Gerard Lopez, on a two-year deal in May, Bielsa immediately set about reshaping the squad that finished 11th in Ligue 1 last season.

The former Argentina, Chile and Marseille boss had informed some of the long-serving squad members, including Enyeama not to report for pre-season training on June 19. The effected players only started preparing for the new campaign on July 3.

On Monday, Enyeama tweeted with some of his fellow rejectees, who also include Montenegro international Marko Basa, France international Marvin Martin and Zambia defender Stoppila Sunzu, stating: “Always a pleasure to be back with the team.”

It will be recalled that Lille recently unveiled Burkina Faso first choice goalkeeper, Herve Koffi, as it embarked on a rebuilding the team ahead of the new season.

Koffi, 20, reportedly signed a long-term contract with Lille from Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas.
